Monday motivation: God answers prayers

Yesterday in the three-year-old Sunday school class, we studied the story of Hannah praying to God for a child. The kids seemed really excited that Hannah, who was seen crying in the picture, prayed for and received a baby boy because God answered her prayer.

It was a good reminder for me, because I’ve been praying for something just like Hannah, often in tears and sobs. I really need a job for when my current internship ends. I have plenty of money in savings, and I am moving back home to save some money, but it’s still important that I can be making money to pay the bills I still have.

I’ve been praying for months, and for almost as long there have been no responses from the dozens of places I applied.

Then, on Friday, I got a phone call about a job. Last night I got an email about another job. And this morning while I was running errands, another company e-mailed me back.

I don’t have a job yet, but God is showing me that He knows I need a job and that He is able to provide it for me. I could send out 10,000 resumes, but if God in His grace doesn’t deign to provide for me, I have no hope.

What have you been praying about that’s hard to trust God for? Maybe you need a job, too, or maybe you, like Hannah, are praying for a child. Whatever it is, trust that the Lord provides for His children.

The LORD upholds all those who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
The LORD is righteous in all his ways
and loving toward all he has made.
The LORD is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
he hears their cry and saves them.
–Psalm 145:17-19
