I’ve been a blog reader for almost three years now, but I didn’t discover Google Reader until about 18 months ago.
Disclaimer: Google Reader WILL monopolize your time if you’re not disciplined enough to be careful with it.
Confession: I am not always disciplined with Google Reader.
That said, it’s a really handy way to keep track of your favorite blogs. If you have a Gmail account, you don’t need to do anything extra. Just make sure you’re signed into Gmail and start subscribing.
To subscribe to a blog, look for the small, orange square with white lines on it like the one to your left (next to “subscribe in a reader”). Click on it, and choose Google Reader as your RSS syndicator. Sometimes that button is found in the address bar (on Firefox, anyway). And sometimes there is no button, and just a link that says “subscribe in a feed.” It’s all the same.
I just signed up with Feedburner to keep track of my feeds, so if you’re not already subscribed, now’s as good a time as any. And if you’re new to RSS feeds, then my blog’s a great way to get your feet wet. At least, I think so.
